Cedar Falls: Protecting Your Children: Advice from Child Molesters

Cedar Falls: Protecting Your Children: Advice from Child Molesters

This presentation educates parents, youth service staff, educators, community volunteers, and faith-based communities about child sexual abuse, sex offender behavior, effective risk management, and prevention strategies.  Workshops debunk the myth that children are capable of protecting themselves from determined offenders and promote the idea that all adults must take an active, well informed role in promoting child safety.  Information about offender grooming behavior, Internet crimes, victim advocacy, reporting, sexual behavior between children, and talking to children about child sexual abuse are covered.   Potential project benefits, such as jury education, and early intervention with potential offenders, are expected.

Webster City: Mini TIPS-MAPP

Webster City: Mini TIPS-MAPP

Designed for families who were licensed prior to the implementation of Trauma Informed PS-MAPP, Mini TIPS-MAPP will provide some of the foundational trauma information included in TIPS-MAPP and give families an opportunity to reflect on their experience as resource parents thus far. Families will learn about children’s learned patterns of response when they have experienced trauma and the way their development is impacted by these experiences. Implications for discipline will be discussed through case examples and group discussion. A discussion on discipline and the impact of trauma on teaching healthy behaviors will be included as well. Participants will also learn about child traumatic stress and how this affects a child’s daily functioning, as well as the potential impact of intergenerational trauma within a family. Cedar Falls: The Benefit to “Being With” a Child

Cedar Falls: The Benefit to “Being With” a Child

Too often we "parent" or educate children.  We forget the need and the how to of simply being with a child.  We forget how "being with" a child allows them to be seen and heard.  This will grow into the child feeling valued and important.  As a child feels that they are worth "being with", they grow a stronger sense of self, internal motivation and self-responsibility.  This is the key to successful and healthy relationships. This training is approved for 3 hours foster parent training credit.
